what is the waynarium?

Waynarium is my online portal to the world, and it’s a space where I can share the work that I’ve been making. I’m Wayne Churcher, a Kiwi artist, and I’ve always had a fascination for the poster as a medium, it’s a wonderful way of sharing ideas. The use of software is an exciting, expanding medium and for me, it’s a sandbox where I experiment and play. I take inspiration from the process where one action - or mark - leads to the next. My work is made of simple geometric relationships deriving from the layering of shapes and photography.

It’s liberating to not feel the need to give a message through my practice. The artworks are documents of a passage of time where I am informed by the work. If there is intent, it’s to play and share a love and wonder of the process of making.

Projects

This series is an investigation on a unified field where, while there is colour, there is one. I am looking at the relationships of form in a simple grid, reducing the noise to focus on figure-ground shifts while teasing with the presence of colour. However, I am often tempted to disrupt this rule by adding one, oppositional colour, as above. Rule one: follow the rules. Rule two: break the rules.

Monochrome

Poster Series

Deriving from monochrome I allowed myself not just to investigate the gestalt(figure and ground), but the relationships between at most 4 colours. The addition of photography adds another layer. Through the insertion of images that document my personal location in space and time I am repeating the universal code of the poster as a medium of information.
